2D & 3D ANIMATION

This comprehensive course introduces students to the world of both 2D and 3D animation, starting with an exploration of the key differences between the two. Using Adobe After Effects, students will learn essential animation techniques, from basic motion paths to more advanced features like keyframes, masking, and motion sketching. As they progress, students will delve into the fascinating realm of 3D animation, learning to work with layers, lights, cameras, and depth of field to create dynamic and engaging visuals.

The course also covers the creation of animated GIFs, infographic elements, and motion tracking, giving students a well-rounded experience in digital animation. The introduction to Cinema 4D in the final weeks will provide a taste of professional 3D animation, allowing students to experiment with more complex projects. By the end of this course, students will have the skills and confidence to create their own animations, ready for creative or professional projects.

HERE IS THE DETAILED COURSE OUTLINE

  1. November 3rd, 2024

    Session 01: Introduction & Orientation

    An overview of the course objectives and structure, focusing on the fundamental differences between 2D and 3D animation. Students will gain insights into the animation industry and its various applications.

  2. November 10th, 2024

    Session 02: Adobe After Effects

    Introduction to Adobe After Effects, including a software overview and basic animation techniques. Students will learn to create and manipulate position paths for their animations.

  3. November 17th, 2024

    Session 03: Composition From Photoshop

    Students will explore composition techniques using assets from Photoshop, focusing on essential keyboard shortcuts. The week includes hands-on practice with motion sketching, masking, and rendering settings.

  4. November 24th, 2024

    Session 04: Keyframes Assistant

    This week covers keyframe assistant tools, shape layers, and text presets. Students will learn to utilize animation presets to enhance their projects effectively.

  5. December 1st, 2024

    Session 05: Speed Graph, Value Graph

    Focus on advanced animation techniques using the speed and value graphs. Students will learn about adjustment layers and how to incorporate null objects into their animations.

  6. December 8th, 2024

    Session 06: 3D Layers in After Effects

    Introduction to working with 3D layers in After Effects. Students will learn about different lighting options, including points, ambient light, parallel light, and spotlights, to enhance their animations.

  7. December 15th, 2024

    Session 07: 3D Camera in After Effects

    Students will explore the 3D camera tool in After Effects, learning about depth of field and camera animation techniques to create more dynamic animations.

  8. December 22nd, 2024

    Session 08: Wiggle Expression

    An introduction to essential expressions in After Effects, including the wiggle and loop expressions. Students will discover how to use these to add complexity and fluidity to their animations.

  9. December 29th, 2024

    Session 09: Animated Gifs

    Focus on creating animated GIFs and infographic elements. Students will learn about trim paths, alpha and luma keying, as well as audio settings for enhanced storytelling.

  10. January 5th, 2025

    Session 10: Chroma Keying, Repeater

    Students will learn chroma keying techniques and how to use the repeater tool in After Effects. Motion tracking and file organization techniques will also be covered to streamline workflows.

  11. January 12th, 2025

    Session 11: Intro to Cinema 4D

    An introduction to Cinema 4D, focusing on the interface and basic animation techniques. Students will learn to navigate the software and create simple 3D animations.

  12. January 19th, 2025 ​​

    Session 12: Final Project/Assessment

    Students will apply the skills learned throughout the course in a final project, showcasing their understanding of 2D and 3D animation techniques. Assessments will evaluate creativity, technical skills, and project execution.
