IT & AI FOR BEGINNERS

This course is designed to introduce students to the essential concepts of Information Technology (IT) and the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The IT portion of the course focuses on building a strong foundation in computer systems, networking, file management, cloud storage, and productivity tools like word processing and spreadsheets. Students will also learn the basics of cybersecurity and online privacy, equipping them with the skills to navigate today’s digital landscape safely and confidently.

In the second part of the course, students will dive into the basics of AI. They will explore what AI is, how it works, and its practical applications in the world around us. From using AI tools like ChatGPT and image generators to learning how to create effective prompts, students will get hands-on experience interacting with AI technology. This course is perfect for those looking to develop practical IT skills while exploring the possibilities that AI offers. By the end of the program, students will be able to use various IT tools efficiently and understand the potential of AI in creative and productive contexts.

  1. November 3rd, 2024

    Session 01: Introduction to IT Basics (Part 1)

    Discover the foundational role of IT in daily life and industries, and learn about essential hardware and software components. Practical activity includes identifying computer hardware and navigating an operating system.

  2. November 10th, 2024

    Session 02: Introduction to IT Basics (Part 2) & Networking Basics

    Explore the difference between system and application software, and learn the basics of computer networking and data flow. Students will practice basic network setups and understanding IP addresses.

  3. November 17th, 2024

    Session 03: File Management & Cloud Storage

    Learn to manage and organize files on local systems and cloud platforms, and understand the importance of data backup. Students will organize files using Google Drive, OneDrive, and similar services.

  4. November 24th, 2024

    Session 04: Productivity Tools (Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations)

    Get hands-on experience with creating and editing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations using popular software tools. Students will create a document, spreadsheet, and presentation during class.

  5. December 1st, 2024

    Session 05: Internet, Communication, and Online Collaboration Tools

    Understand safe internet usage, email etiquette, and the power of online collaboration tools like Google Docs and Microsoft Teams. Students will practice professional communication and document sharing.

  6. December 8th, 2024

    Session 06: Introduction to Security & Privacy in IT

    Learn the basics of cybersecurity, online threats, and protecting personal privacy. Students will practice creating secure passwords and adopt safe online habits.

  7. December 15th, 2024

    Session 07: Practical IT Applications & Troubleshooting

    Gain insight into IT troubleshooting, basic support roles, and the practical applications of IT across industries. Hands-on troubleshooting activities will help students solve common hardware and software issues.

  8. December 22nd, 2024

    Session 08: Final IT Review & Hands-On IT Project

    Review key IT concepts and apply your knowledge in a practical project such as setting up a home network or managing a digital document repository. This class wraps up the IT module with a project.

  9. December 29th, 2024

    Session 09: Introduction to AI Concepts

    Explore the basics of artificial intelligence, including real-world applications and types of AI like machine learning and neural networks. Practical activity includes trying out AI tools such as chatbots.

  10. January 5th, 2025

    Session 10: Exploring AI Tools & Platforms

    Get hands-on experience with user-friendly AI tools like ChatGPT and DALL·E to explore how AI assists in content creation and task automation. Students will generate content or solve simple problems using AI.

  11. January 12th, 2025

    Session 11: Prompting Techniques & Practical AI Practice

    Learn how to craft effective prompts to interact with AI tools for desired results. Students will practice writing prompts and generating stories or images using AI platforms.

  12. January 19th, 2025 ​​

    Session 12: AI Ethics, Trends, and Future Exploration

    Discuss AI ethics, emerging trends, and future career opportunities in AI. Students will explore how AI impacts industries and the potential paths for AI-related careers.
